This site exists as a portal into who I am. In 2020, I trained for something, that year, called the Unbreakable 24 Hour Challenge, put on by Thom Shea, a former active Navy Seal and friend of a former employer, a former active Marine. For 24 hours we hiked, talked, reflected, and were rained on, nearly the entire time. If you have the funds, it is definitely an experience worth having, if only to push yourself past your limits and prove you can overcome more than you previously thought.

WorkTheEarth ceased to exist in its current job site form at the start of 2023 but continues as a URL forward to Scout Services (explained below).

Hendersonville NC Jobs and Apply or Hire no longer exist as of the new year 2023.
Sites like ZipRecruiter have forced mom and pop job sites to close down, unfortunately due to massive false advertising campaigns and claims. ZipRecruiter and Indeed started as job portals that utilized mom and pop sites to deliver their content, paying mom and pop sites for that delivery. As they grew, they started saying that their reach was all theirs, refusing to acknowledge the delivery vehicles they still used to boost their claims. They still use these sites, but they pay pennies on hundreds of thousands of dollars, give no credit to these sites, and still make outrageous claims about their reach despite thousands of these sites no longer being active. The ZipRecruiter site still has a long running database of these sites listed and the majority are no longer in business. All that said, I have spent thousands of dollars, out of pocket, to keep my sites running, but I don't receive nearly enough customers, especially paying customers, to even cover maintenance costs. I was a member of HCPED for 2 years and HCPED made promises of promotion and networking that never actually happened, so even the local economic organizations don't go out of their way to help you advertise, unless you are lining their pockets with gold, which only huge corporations can do. So, for this reason, I'm out. The Locators Resource is how I will continue helping job seekers in my industry. Additionally, as discussed elsewhere in this website, I am completely willing to create storefront websites and portfolio/online resumes. I have done both for more than 2 decades. Online resumes receive a lot of attention from employers, as they are interactive and unique. Contact me for more info.

The Locators' Resource website has been running for approximately 5 years now. It provides resources for utility locators in 811, private locating, and other applications and sectors. The original The Locators' Resource is a private group on FB open only to members of our profession. We strive for quality locators over quantity, so our numbers are smaller than most groups, but close to a thousand. We consist of locators who see the trade as a profession and not just a job; locators who take their job seriously and acknowledge that there is always room for growth no matter the amount of existing experience. Additionally, this year, 2022, we created a LinkedIn group for TLR which is in slow growth to include other industry professionals. All TLR resources are run by me, free of charge, but at a cost for me. I am always looking for revenue sources to help pay for the cost to maintain domain and hosting fees and welcome industry related businesses who want to advertise with us. Contact me through LinkedIn (link on our Contact page) for more info. TLR is a growing resource of equipment manuals, GIS maps, products, advice, industry news, and other content that helps locators complete their tasks on a daily basis. TLR will become an arm of Scout Services down the line and the related services complement each other.

As of December 2020, I have been heavily promoting Carolinas.Scot, also known as Scotsmen of the Carolinas. This group was started approximately 3 years prior, but only now is it catching on. Men and women of Scottish lineage who reside in the Carolinas are welcome to join the private group for free, linked from the above website, and participate in meet up events all over the Carolinas, preferably kilted (men). Membership as of 2022 is 700+ and is approximately a 50/50 split of men to women. Membership in good standing is based on active membership in the facebook group, and members have access to purchase and receive members only clothing and merchandise. We had a booth at the 2nd Annual Upstate Rennaissance Faire in Greer in September and more than 60 members joined in a single day because of this. There are plans to participate in the third annual URF in 2023 which will be held at the Spartanburg Fairgrounds. We also participated in the Greenville Games in 2023 thanks in large part to member Dean Harbert who allowed us a free space. We were invited to participate in the Crystal Coast Highland Games this year, by coordinator Holly Crawford, but were unable to secure volunteers to run the booth on that end of the state. We are hoping to have better participation next year.

Recent changes as of late March 2022. I have become a private locator and as of January 2023 I have become the Business Development Manager for a utility company out of Greer, SC. Additionally, I am creating a program for the same company that I was going to develop with former employer Scott Temple (briefly mentioned above) to rebirth and rebrand Scout Communication Services as Scout Services. The program trains and retrains locators, audits them pre and post training, and provides placement services. I am currently positioning us to lead the industry to acknowledge locating as a skilled trade, increasing pay and benefits for those who take the profession seriously, while weeding out those who are just passing through. The Scout Services website still exists and will be made over, likely next year, to reflect the directional bore services and other endeavors like construction management that Scott plans to take on.

Websites I Run for Others

I was hosting Van's Auto Service in East Flat Rock but he chose to move beyond the simple site and try someone who would monitor his site as their primary profession. Marty will still provide a professional reference if you ask.
Ted Barnette's Portfolio was created to help tend find work. Now that he starts a new job, we are letting the site expire.

The logo design was originally created for a fundraising group that I chaired for 3 years under the Asheville Scottish Rite. It was designed by Brother David Shires of Ireland with the input of symbolism from some of my most trusted brethren. I have since edited it to reflect and represent myself and my current endeavors. I highly recommend Brother Shires work, as he has done multiple logo designs and website graphics for me. He is by far the most affordable (upfront fees, no hidden charges later), professional, and skilled, graphic designer I have requested custom work from. Contact him through The Image Designs website.

The websites listed on this page, unless otherwise noted, are sites that I run either for myself or for other individuals, businesses, and organizations. I have been asked on multiple occasions to develop and host websites for others. I do this on a case by case basis. I am more than happy to host a no maintenance single page store front website for $100 annually. The $100 mostly covers annual domain and privacy rental (despite what other sites tell you, you do NOT own your domain, you rent it). The price also covers a small portion of my overall hosting fee. I rarely make any profit, myself, though I am open to receiving more compensation at the discretion of the business owner or individual (I was paid an additional $5k by one owner for mirror sites for 2 of his companies where I eliminated his headache of an incompetent web hosting company costing him an arm and a leg). Sites that require more maintenance than the previously mentioned single page site, will incur additional annual fees that will be listed for you. I do not believe in hidden fees or charges. All will be agreed upon, if I agree to build and host a site for you. If you are interested, contact me directly. My rates are the lowest you'll find, locally, and in some cases I'm willing to barter my services for the goods or services of your business, saving you even more in the long run.
